this is a very light, sunny, color. it is intense. it is slightly darker than gold. more orange. it stays long. it is best when applied wet. it certainly adds a lot of pop to the eyes. it can be worn both subtly & intensely.
I bought this quad, because I absolutely love purples. Every shade is quite nice and compliments each other well. It is reasonably priced for an eyeshadow quad. About midrange for a drugstore brand. It comes with a spong tip applicator, which I do not use. I prefer my own brushes. The shadows are not highly pigmented. More of a middle of the road performance. They do go on smoothly and blend quite well. I didn't get a lot of fall out when applying them. I find that the color fades quite quickly, which is really disappointing. I do use a primer and base, and my other shadows last all day. Overall I am a bit disappointed with this and do not plan to repurchase it.
Pros:Nice colors, blends smoothly Cons:Starts fading in about 2 hours
I love this! The colors (from left to right) are: Dusk (a slighly pearly blue gray), Evening Shadow (a very pearly medium bronze), Metro Sparkle (a sparkly champagne), and Streetlight (a matte white).
I don't use Dusk that often, but when I do it shows up fairly lightly and somewhat pearly. I use Evening Shadow CONSTANTLY!!! It is gorgeous and shimmery. You can apply it lightly for a sheer, pearly light brown, or you can aply it heavily for a super shimmery (NOT sparkly) deep bronze color. I use Metro Sparkle occasionally...I don't really like glittery eyeshadows. The color is very light, ands the glitter is pretty noticable. You just have to make sure you clean up the glitter that falls under your eyes or it looks very...erm...slutty? Lol. I think it does. Lastly, Streetlight is my second most used color. It isn't stark white, but has a medium coverage that is great as a wash or highlight.
I like to highlight with Streetlight, then put an intense layer of Evening Shadow on my lid and slighly above my crease. I also thickly line my eyes with it. I put a chocolate brown in the crease and line my eyes again with a thinner brown line. Viola! My signature brown smokey eye!!! <3
I highly recommend this product. I plan on getting lots more quads and trios...specifically the Professional Eye Enhancers Quad in Ice Princess. Can you say purple smokey eye? Yay! Lol.
Mine was about $5.50 at Walgreens. I have to agree that the quality of this product varies from batch to batch, so don't give up hope completely if you get a crappy one. Lol.
P.S. This particular quad is now part of the Queen Collection. That collection is for products that work well for African American women. I am very pale, and these colors show up a little sheer on me...but I have an older quad. So maybe the new one is a bit more pigmented. I would try the Queen Collection Urban Basics instead of the normal one. The QC one comes in a lavender case instead of the original dark blue one.
Pros:Pretty colors; Cheap; Nice pigmentation; Long lasing; Lots of color combinations with one pan. Cons:Sometimes you get a bad batch and the pigment or consistency is bad.
I am surprisingly incredibly pleased with this e/s. It's a shimmery/kinda frosty neutral that's a cross between a silver shade and a brownish shade, making it a GORGEOUS taupe. It is pigmented with a not-bad texture. It makes my eyes pop. CG has a lot of unimpressive products, but I certainly find this one impressive. It works on most skin tones, and the only downside is that for those who prefer matte shadows, this won't cut it for them.
Pros:pigmented, not-bad texture, price, makes eyes pop, versatile, I like the shimmer/frost, gorgeous color Cons:if you mind shimmer/frost, you won't like this
This is a wonderful basic eyeshadow kit to have. With this, you get three shades:
1.) Morning Cocoa (medium brown)
This is a shimmery brown that is nice for subtle contouring. You aren't going to get a lot of drama when using this for contouring, but it makes a nice day look if you want to use brown tones.
2.) Golden Sunrise (coppery gold)
Regardless of the rest of my makeup look, I use this shade daily from my brow bone to right underneath my eyebrow. I love putting color in that spot because a warm shade like this really makes your eyes/face glow. It pulls together any eye look and is just really radiant. Love this shade!
3.) First Light (light goldish yellow)
This is the lightest shade of the bunch and is the one I use on my lid. It's great to put all the way on the inner part of your eye for a very wide awake look. It's a nice variation from whites and champagnes because it has a certain goldeny warmth to it. Looks great with the other two colors, but using it with a separate green shade for contouring also makes an interesting look.
Overall, this is a nice set for anyone to have. I decided to review it now because summertime is a great time to get into these colors with all the bronzing and self-tanning that's going on. They have decent staying power and blend easily. These colors will give you an awesome glow together or separately!
Pros:awesome colors, they blend easily, nice as a set or separate Cons:could be slightly more long lasting, but using some sort of primer combats fading
This is a great wash color or base color without being too yellow or pinky undertoned. It is a soft cream color..that stays that color. It goes with any color selection & blends well... and lasts all day which was a nice surprise.
Cover girl makes some great products and i've always liked their e/s. This is a pretty, cool, purple color which I just did not like on me but I think it's a good e/s. It has great staying power, nice pigmentation, and doesn't crease.
CoverGirl's new Squease eyeshadows are cream eyeshadows in a squeezable tube, with a built-in foam applicator. (There is a hole in the middle of the applicator that the eyeshadow comes out of.) Cloud is a shimmery white color.
This eyeshadow does last a very long time (I still used my normal base with it) and does not crease. It is also has good color coverage -- nice and opaque rather than sheer. It's also a good price, around $5.
However, I found it very difficult to get an even application, regardless of whether I used the foam applicator or my fingers. It just looked splotchy and uneven on my lids, and as it dried it emphasized fine lines that I didn't even know I had! My husband even asked why my eyeshadow looked so "flaky" when I tried this!
The formula and texture reminds me a lot of L'Oreal's Aqua Proof cream eyeshadows if anyone's tried those.
Pros:Long-lasting, does not crease, good coverage Cons:Cannot get an even application, emphasized fine lines
I'm not big on DS brand eyeshadows at all and I'm not even sure how I ended up with this, I think someone left it at my place. But I just found this unopened and it looked like a nice shimmery color, so I figured I try it out. It's a nice ivory shade that surprisingly compares nicely to my Chanel Venus eyeshadow. It even lasted all day. This isn't gonna make me go out and buy a bunch of Cover Girl, but I might stock up on this color because it is a color I use a lot in my kit, and this would be a much cheaper product than any of the ones I've been using on set. The pigmentation surprised me as well, I'm impressed!
Pros:nice color, great pigment, lasts all day Cons:
This quad contains a dark purple, a medium purple mauve color, a light purple, and a cream color. The pigmentation of these shadows was very poor -- I applied several coats of the dark purple and all it did was give me a light purple wash. The lighter colors hardly even show up at all, and the cream color was a little chalky. Definitely not a repurchase.
This is my first green e/s ever, and I'm glad I bought it! It's a very light green color with shimmer. I would buy it again because it is very cheap and I can certainly afford to purchase another one. The texture of the e/s is very smooth and easy to blend, but the staying power isn't really good unless you use a primer under it. Otherwise, this is a great buy.
This product is labeled as warm, and I am cool toned. However, I tried it because the Cover Girl site told me to. For those that don't know, Cover Girl will give product recommendations if you sign up at their website. Online it looks like a pale, sparkly pinky/beige. In person, it looks more white than anything. It has a faint tinge of some other color...but its so faint, I can't even tell what it is. It could be pink, it could be orange for all I know. It is slightly sparkly and shows up very pale and mostly white on me. It looks awful. I will think twice before following CG's recs again.
Country Woods contains four browns, coffee (a very dark matte brown), mink (a somewhat shimmery medium brown), barely beige (a matte beige), and mocha (a barely shimmery brown that looks a little orangeish to me). My mother actually gave me this quad; she had bought it for herself and didn't like it. Well, to put it simply, I don't like it either. It is actually meant for warm tones, and I am cool toned (at least I didn't actually pay for it). For warm toned people it could be ok, but regardless, the textures of these shadows (and it seems all Cover Girl shadows) is terrible. So is the pigmentation. The colors don't seem true...they're almost...dirty looking, if that makes sense. However, this is very cheap, and if you are warm toned and need a cheap, quick assortment of browns, this may be worth a try.
Pros:extremely cheap Cons:poor texture and pigmentation
Country Woods has a dark matte brown, a shimmery medium brown, a light beige and a medium tan color. This is fairly similar to Tranquil Browns except for the shimmery brown, which I use the most from this quad. The staying power is ok, but for the price, you can always buy more. I think these cost about $4?
Urban basics has a matte plum purple, medium-dark shimmery brown, a sparkly lavendar/pink, and a white shade. I hardly ever use this although the brown and sparkly lavendar/pink are quite pretty. The staying power is fine, not awesome. The shadows have a soft feel to them. I think these cost about $3-4.
Tranquil Browns is made up of a dark, chocolatey brown, medium tan, light taupe, and beige. This is a good quad for a neutral eye look. The dark color is nice for lining the eyes. The staying power is fair and the shadow itself shows up nicely. If I remember correctly, this costs about $4-5.
